rico soul: This is kind of an interesting product as a color swap of the MG Phenex NT from gold to this sort of dark blue plated look. Daban advertised it as black chrome but obviously even from the pictures we can see it's more of a bluish purplish tone.
Now Bandai's original MG Unicorn/Phenex mold isn't the greatest to begin with. It's a very old kit and so a lot of the engineering do show it's age. Daban's bootleg will of course have more problems. Still, this is an interesting and fairly unique look for an Phenex NT so for those interested in it, it's not a bad display piece for the price, considering it's a plated kit.
Now the plating quality is fairly average daban and so the paint is uneven, there going to be imperfections in the plating due to dust and other particulates, and even some orange peel in the paint. Flash and shrinkage are also present as usual with Daban, which are further exacerbated by being a plated kit. This all comes with the territory.
Some other things worth noting:
- the original dark blue parts like the backpack and feet are not plated or painted
- the plastic underneath the plating is dark grey and there are places where the armor is not undergated and nub marks will be visible
- being a plated kit, it's kind of a fingerprint and dust magnet
- the psycho frame is a semi matte more purplish tone clear plastic and is not blacklight/UV reactive
Overall it's all within expectations for Daban and priced accordingly. Like many things Daban, it looks good from far away but doesn't hold up as well when looking at the details. At $50, it's still a decent kit for Unicorn fans and people that like this somewhat unique color scheme.
