▼ The first annual meme-powered release from rising model brand Yushanfang Model, the 1/96 “Hawthorn Cake” (sample), recently arrived at our studio.

Yet another ambitious attempt at enlarging an RG kit to near-1/100 scale, this release delivers a surprisingly strong showing among domestic model kits. Combined with the excellent articulation engineering inherited from the original RG design, it becomes an unexpectedly fun oversized “Hawthorn Cake” to handle and pose.

Let’s take a closer look at this giant crimson beast.

The black runners show fairly visible flow marks. It’s not a major issue overall, and reportedly the final retail release will receive additional optimization.

▼ The skirt armor and shoulder armor connectors retain the same integrated molded joint construction as the original RG. The feel is somewhat similar to flexible POK-style material, though the infamous C-clips are still present.

The decals have excellent flexibility, making curved-surface application and repositioning very easy.

The metallic foil stickers are mainly intended for small detail correction, though honestly metallic markers often produce cleaner results.

The enlarged stand connector also scales the peg diameter up to roughly 7mm, making it incompatible with most display stands currently on the market.

Since this is essentially a direct upscale version, the overall appearance remains extremely faithful to the original RG without adding or removing extra details.

The matte armor finish significantly improves the out-of-box appearance, and with just a straight build plus decals, the completed result already looks excellent.

▼ Even without any die-cast components, the completed model still weighs approximately 560g, giving it a satisfyingly hefty feel.

▼ “Hawthorn Cake” was already a massive mobile suit to begin with, and after scaling up, the final height reaches a towering 25 cm, roughly equal to Ka Sazabi in height.

Placed beside earlier oversized kits like Fat Tiger’s enlarged RX-78 and A Baoa Qu’s enlarged Valkyrie, the sheer scale of this machine becomes even more dramatic.

Naturally, the complete internal frame structure is fully preserved in the upscale process.

That said, compared to the layered mechanical density emphasized by Ka Sazabi, the RG Sazabi-style frame is noticeably simpler in comparison.

▼ The head retains the cockpit-hatch styling, though no internal cockpit detail is included. The mono-eye also remains non-movable, just like the original RG release.

Small thrusters on the shoulders and legs continue using the original triple-integrated installation structure as well.

The shoulders feature outward pull-out joints, and the entire arm can extend further by unlocking internal mechanisms, resulting in dramatically exaggerated articulation.
