▼ Sprue Review | Orange Cat Industry Takumi-Cast Arbalest: Inferno 1/35 Full Equipment Final Battle Specification

Orange Cat Industry, under official license from Full Metal Panic, is releasing their Takumi-Cast 1/35 Arbalest: Inferno Full Equipment Final Battle Specification (sample shown). This model kit boasts a substantial parts count and configuration on par with PG-grade kits. Given its scope, we’ll be reviewing it in two parts, covering the sprues, inner frame, main body, and weaponry. Today, we’ll dive into the massive suitcase-style packaging and the impressive 100 sprues. The second part is currently simmering, so please look forward to it.

▼ Packaging & Manual

The outer box features a dynamic CG illustration of the Arbalest: Inferno in its full combat glory, with the reverse side offering a concise introduction to the mobile suit and a display of its articulation. Designed as a suitcase, the packaging itself boasts intimidating dimensions of 61.5 × 25 × 35 cm and a single box weight exceeding 5kg, making it almost respectable as a piece of fitness equipment for gifting.

Opening the box reveals a transparent overlay featuring front line art and the unit number of the Arbalest: Inferno. The internal layout divides the model into five independent boxes for the torso, arms, legs, backpack, and weapons. The sides of these inner boxes can be arranged to form a complete line art illustration, adding a ceremonial touch to the unboxing experience.

Paper products and other accessories include the instruction manual, adhesive stickers, waterslide decals, reflective foil stickers, springs, two LED units (with batteries), and two soft metal wires.

In addition to the sprues being separated by individual boxes, the entire mobile suit is divided into six main sections. You can organize the necessary sprues according to the manual’s index, allowing for quick part identification. (Our recommended assembly order is: Base → Backpack → Weapons → Torso Frame → Arm Frame → Leg Frame → Outer Armor.)

Beyond detailed assembly instructions, the manual also includes setting line art and an introduction to the mobile suit. Even as a successor unit to the protagonist’s mech in Full Metal Panic, multiple versions of its setting exist. Orange Cat Industry’s version defaults to the Full Metal Panic IV (2018) anime setting.

A key highlight is the inner frame, which combines various shades of molded colors with pre-painted details. Each part features incredibly precise engraving, a level of detail that truly embodies the spirit of craftsmanship.

The gold and bronze pre-painted mechanical details are particularly striking. Detail-oriented modelers may even wish to further enhance various hydraulic rods and wires with brush painting for refined color separation.

The “Heat Dissipation Cable” effect parts feature a transparent orange to purplish-blue gradient coating.

Each turbine blade of the XL-3 is an independently molded part. This design choice prioritized assembly convenience during the molding process, with a special part arrangement that allows for securing the blades before cutting all the nubs in one go.

Most of the XL-3’s parts feature intricate detailing on both the front and back, with even typically unseen areas boasting fine textures. It truly lives up to the “Takumi” (Craftsman) designation!

The Orange Cat Industry Takumi-Cast Arbalest: Inferno truly impresses from the initial unboxing. The colossal, thoughtfully designed packaging and the sheer volume of meticulously detailed sprues, many featuring pre-painted elements, immediately convey a sense of premium craftsmanship. The clever organization of parts, especially for the XL-3 thruster, speaks to a design philosophy focused on both detail and builder experience. This initial look promises a highly engaging and rewarding build, setting a high bar for what’s to come in our next review.
