Highly anticipated! The latest masterpiece and technological marvel from CCS, the “Mortal Mind Neon Genesis Evangelion: ANIMA Final Model,” has recently arrived at our editorial office! Supervised by Ikuto Yamashita, the author of the “EVA ANIMA” novel and the original designer, this model further emphasizes the concept of a “giant with steel muscles.” CCS has incorporated a lot of humanoid muscles and ligament linkage structures into this final EVA model while maintaining the Mortal Mind’s unique style. Let’s take a quick look at it today!

▼The machine appears in the official novel “EVA ANIMA,” an IF line of the “Neon Genesis Evangelion” TV series. It is the final form after the evolution of the Unit-01 into the “Super EVA.” It is a fusion of the core of Unit-01, Shinji Ikari’s heart, and the S2 engine. However, the cost is that Shinji Ikari cannot leave the EVA, and his life is frozen at 0.82 seconds before death. It possesses the power to destroy the space created by the Lance of Longinus, trigger a cosmic explosion, release gravitational waves throughout the universe, and stop time across the entire universe.

▼The outer box packaging follows CCS’s consistent style of a kraft paper box with line art. Inside, there is a colored cover/black and white pencil sketch. The famous quote on the side feels more like a message from the original designer.

▼This time, the cover features a shiny hot stamping, giving the entire cover an AT field-like look. You can see the colorful NEVR logo from different light angles.

▼The arm position features a ligament-like structure, but special care is needed when adjusting angles. The font design here continues the EVA style.

▼The body is approximately 30cm tall. This time, the overall design of the CCS Mortal Mind has retained the original design, with an enhanced muscular look to further emphasize the powerful presence of this EVA, especially the robust legs that give a feeling of an explosive athlete, perfectly fitting the theme of a “giant with steel muscles”.

▼The total weight of the body is about 580g, making it one of the lighter “Mortal Mind” models in recent years, but it still feels substantial in hand.

▼The color scheme uses three different textures of deep purple—glossy, semi-glossy, and metallic—as the main color, giving the overall look a more solid feel. The orange parts are divided into metallic and glossy finishes as “muscle ligaments,” and the exposed “flesh” parts use matte black for transition. Various stripes and logos are printed throughout the body, giving it a Formula 1 car vibe.

▼For the design of the enlarged outer armor on the thighs, I personally understand it as emphasizing the existence of the “vortex wings” from the Super EVA before evolution.

▼The head sculpt compared to the original design has fuller lines and a fiercer look in the eyes. The mouth can open, and the cheek armor is connected by ball joints. The single antenna comes with two spares. By using a magnetic stick, you can activate the chest LED lights, lighting up both the chest heart and eye lights in red. The second press of the magnet switch changes it to a breathing light mode, simulating a heartbeat. The lights automatically turn off after 5 minutes.

▼Since the machine does not have an “entry plug,” it uses a black disc “time stopper” suspended on the back to pause Shinji Ikari’s life time. CCS cleverly integrates this mechanism using a magnet, and it also serves as the LED power source.

▼Upon closer inspection, there’s a “終” (end) character on the backpack’s central mark, and a “初” (beginning) character on the back of the head sculpt, reinforcing the machine’s evolution concept.

▼The backpack is similar to the usual EVA restraints, functioning as a quantum wave mirror to suppress energy outbursts. The final model’s backpack design resembles a Formula 1 car’s rear wing, adjustable in angle to reduce interference with arm mobility.

▼The backpack has a weapon rack, primarily for storing the electromagnetic rifle.

▼By replacing the core component on the back, it can be transformed into a connector for mounting the “wings of light.” The approximate position is shown in the image below.

▼The wings of light come in four pieces, with the longest one about 25cm and the shortest 18cm. Each wing has a holographic coating, giving it a beautiful and luxurious texture with angular details.

▼Considering the long-term stress on the backpack’s lower joint, CCS also includes a support stand for reinforcement.

▼The exclusive weapon for the final model, the “Spear of Lucretius,” is about 37cm long. This is the first time this weapon has been made into a tangible form. Created by Shinji Ikari by consuming his life, it has the power to rival the Lance of Longinus. The spear has a black and purple holographic coating, displaying different rich colors under various lighting angles.

▼The head can tilt up and down about 50 degrees. When turning left and right, be careful of the cheek armor.

▼The shoulder stretch joints feature a “humanoid” ligament stretch linkage structure, with a spring rebound sound during the process.

▼The arm rotation joint is relatively tight, with a rotation range of about 35 degrees. It can lift up to 90 degrees, and the elbow bends 120 degrees, with a linkage structure appearing at maximum bend.

▼Besides the fist and claw hands, other interchangeable hand types are mainly used for holding various melee weapons.

▼The waist has three movable axes, allowing for significant bending, side bending, and some backward arching. The left and right rotation can exceed 90 degrees. Be careful of the outer armor scraping during waist movements.

▼The upper thigh area also has a “humanoid” muscle stretch linkage structure. The maximum side kick is about 75 degrees, and the front and back kicks can reach 180 degrees. The knee joint shows a linkage structure when bending.

▼The foot can tilt up to 45 degrees, with adjustable green and orange armor on the shoes to avoid interference. The ankle joint is quite tight, making it time-consuming to adjust the standing balance.

▼The upper thigh can rotate outward about 35 degrees, helpful for posing with one knee down.

▼The base follows CCS’s consistent black and gold font design.

▼The support connectors come in three angles, adjustable for posing needs.

▼The final model fully armed. Alloy weapon racks are added on the sides of the thighs, allowing the Bizen Osafune, Sonroku Extinction Sword, Electromagnetic Rifle, and High-Vibration Particle Knife to be mounted. Apart from the Bizen Osafune, the other weapons are from the Super EVA.

▼The Sonroku Extinction Sword is about 24cm long. The sheath has a hollow design, with “marutou” wave patterns typical of Japanese sword forging on the blade. Due to the sheath design, the paint might scratch easily during the insertion process.

▼The alloy rack on the thigh has four movable axes and can also act as an auxiliary arm for posing.

▼The standard EVA electromagnetic rifle and high-vibration particle knife can be combined into a spear form.

▼The exclusive weapon for the final model, the Bizen Osafune, is about 33cm long. The blade has a curved angle, with “marutou” wave patterns on the edge, and the hilt is painted and detailed accordingly.

▼The CCS Mortal Mind Neon Genesis Evangelion: ANIMA Final Model is undoubtedly the highlight of the niche novel “EVA ANIMA” since its conclusion in 2023. Both the machine configuration and design are crafted as high-end alloy movable models, making it the strongest EVA alloy movable model to date. CCS has vividly expressed the characteristic of a “giant with steel muscles” from design to color scheme.

Due to the reduced body weight, the movable joints feel more comfortable than any previous Mortal Mind products. Holding heavy weapons is no problem. While frequent handling may cause some wear and tear, the first impression upon holding it is “satisfying.” Let’s hope CCS releases the weapon tower and other EVA models soon!
